and experienced the ramifications of it within them, between them, and between them and God. First came the deception (Gen. 3:1a, 13; cf. 1 Tim. 2:12–14). The serpent was crafty. The deception was meant to raise doubt about the goodness of God (3:1b, 5) and the repercussions of rebellion against God (3:4).
